In Memoriam: Yulia Zdanovskaya, 21 anni, matematica

Il Comitato dell’Unione Matematica Internazionale per Il Comitato delle Donne in Matematica (CWM) si rammarica profondamente per la morte di Yulia Zdanovska, 21 anni, medaglia d’argento alle Olimpiadi matematiche femminili europee (EGMO) nel 2017. Yulia era una giovane e brillante matematica con un futuro di successo davanti a sé. La giovane si è rifiutata di lasciare l’Ucraina durante la guerra e, lavorando come volontaria, è morta in un incendio causato da un missile russo che ha colpito la sua zona di residenza nella città orientale di Kharkiv. CWM esprime la sua solidarietà per la famiglia e per tutta la comunità matematica, che si uniscono nel lutto, rendendo onore a Julia.

The International Mathematical Union Committee for Women in Mathematics Committee (CWM) deeply regrets the death of 21-year-old Yulia Zdanovska, who was a silver medalist at the European Women’s
Mathematical Olympiads (EGMO) in 2017. Yulia was a brilliant young mathematician with a successful future ahead of her. The young woman refused to leave Ukraine amid the war and, working as a volunteer,
died in a fire caused by a Russian missile that hit her residential area in the eastern city of Kharkiv. CWM expresses its sympathy with the family and the math community as a whole, united in mourning and
honoring Yulia.
